Bison wrestling tames the west, sets eyes on state duals

The Central City Bison boys wrestling team went west and returned with a memory bank full of pins, podium finishes, and a well-earned trophy. In a stretch that will be remembered for years to come, the Bison took down Valentine in a Friday night battle before setting their sights on Ainsworth, where they bulldozed the competition to claim the team title at the Ainsworth Invitational. Senior Bryce Kunz left his mark in dominant fashion, pinning his way to a championship and earning the Tyler Bower Outstanding Wrestler of the Tournament honor.

While the boys narrowly missed out on the team title—falling just half a point behind rival St. Paul—their individual performances demonstrated the depth and potential of this squad. On the girls’ side, a small but resilient roster brought home two medals, continuing to battle through adversity in a challenging season.

February looms large, bringing with it the promise of district competition and the ultimate goal: punching a ticket to the NSAA State Wrestling Meet in Omaha.

Saturday was a big day of wrestling for the Central City Bison as they competed well against tough competition at Grand Island Northwest. The day was also one of milestones as Riley Lavene secured his 100th win. Soon after, Bryce Kunz notched his 100th career pin and in the next dual, Dylan Lovejoy secured his 100th career win. Central City will see action Thursday inside the Bison Dome for a girls and boys dual.
