Body OMAHA — Somewhere in the final innings of Friday’s state championship game, with the score leaning hard toward Malcolm’s dynasty and the Kernels’ dugout holding onto fading hope, it hit you.

Body There are moments in sports that echo long after the final results are printed. Last week at Burke Stadium, the Central City boys’ track team didn’t just compete—they thundered onto the biggest stage in Nebraska and left it shaking.

Body For four days, Omaha Burke was where dreams collided with the damp drizzle of May. And by the time the final baton had been passed and the last foot landed in the sand pit, Nebraska Christian and High Plains had more than made their mark on the Class D state stage.

Body Nebraska Christian and High Plains made the short drive to Osceola with thoughts of a longer drive to Burke Stadium in Omaha awaiting those who qualify. At the end of the hot, windy day, High Plains had qualified eight young men to pursue their dreams of chasing gold.

Body Despite a midday rain delay that temporarily soaked the course and halted momentum, the Central City boys golf team remained composed and competitive at Monday’s district golf tournament.

Body The Central City/Centura Kernels are marching through the Class C State Baseball Championships with swagger, depth, and determination.

Body Five straight trips to state. But this one hits different.

Body The Nebraska Christian men’s and women’s track teams travelled to the Goldenrod Conference Track and Field Championship last Friday in Humphrey. When the final tape was broken, the Lady Eagles exhibited talent and depth in running away with the team championship.

Body The Central City boys golf team spent last week rewriting the record book and climbing the leaderboard—twice. On Thursday, May 8, the Bison teed off at the LouPlatte Conference Championship and walked away with a third-place team finish.

Body The hay is in the barn—or at least most of it is. With state dreams on the line and the May sun trying to melt spikes to the track, the Bison track and field team showed up ready to run, jump, and throw their way into the conversation at Tuesday’s Class B-5 District meet.
