It wasn’t just the flags whipping and the dust swirling—it was the golf balls, too. In what turned into a blustery battle of attrition, the Central City boys golf team held steady through the wind and welcomed High Plains and St. Paul to town for a competitive triangular on Tuesday afternoon.

Rain or shine, wind or mud, this group just keeps swinging. The Central City/Centura Kernels have flipped the early-season narrative from weather delays to win streaks, and now—five games in—they’re one of the hottest teams in Class C.

The Central City track and field team packed the podium at the Sandy Creek Invite, piling up top-four finishes across the board. Wyatt Dent starred with golds in the 100-meter dash (10.83 PR) and long jump (20’11”), while senior Truman Ryan won the triple jump (42’7.5”) and took fourth in high jump (5’8”) and fifth in the 100.

The march to Omaha officially began Tuesday evening in Central City, and the Central City/Centura Kernels made sure it was worth the wait. After Mother Nature put a damper on their scheduled opening weekend—scratching both Friday’s and Saturday’s games—the Kernels finally took the field and made a bold first impression, blanking Guardian Angels Central Catholic/West Point-Beemer in an 8-0 shutout.

The Central City track and field team kicked off the 2024 season with a strong showing at the Concordia University Indoor Meet, where multiple athletes posted top-six finishes, and several came away with event titles and meet records.

The Nebraska Christian Eagles got their 2025 track & field season started with a bang at the Bulldog Challenge in Concordia University last Friday. In a meet featuring sixteen teams from classes B – C – D, the Lady Eagles challenged Seward to the final event of the evening earning a close 2nd in the team chase.
