Bison battle through Lou-Platte tournament, claim third place after rebound win over Ord

The Central City Bison entered the Lou-Platte Conference Tournament riding a wave of momentum, having surged through January with a string of strong performances. Hopes were high as they took the court at Centura High School, facing off against a familiar foe in Doniphan-Trumbull. The Bison fought hard, but in a game dictated by shooting, efficiency and turnovers, Doniphan-Trumbull pulled away late for a 65-55 victory. However, Central City bounced back in dominant fashion, rolling over Ord in the third-place game with a commanding 67-45 win.

High Plains, Nebraska Christian wrestlers set sights on district tournaments

With the regular season in the books, the High Plains Storm and Nebraska Christian Eagles are gearing up for their biggest challenge yet: the district wrestling tournaments. Each wrestler enters with one goal in mind—to secure a spot at the NSAA State Wrestling Tournament in Omaha, which will take place next Thursday, Friday, and Saturday at the CHI Health Center. High Plains will compete in the Class D-3 District Tournament at Central Valley High School in Greeley, while Nebraska Christian will battle at the Class D-1 District Tournament in Shelton.

For the High Plains Storm, district wrestling was a proving ground. For the Central City Bison, it was a test of resilience. The Gress sisters—Bailey and Dakota—emerged from the fray as state qualifiers, their tickets to Omaha stamped in dominant fashion. Meanwhile, Central City’s Kellsie Kunze fought her way to the brink of a breakthrough, only to see the opportunity slip away in the final moments.

Bison wrestling tames the west, sets eyes on state duals

The Central City Bison boys wrestling team went west and returned with a memory bank full of pins, podium finishes, and a well-earned trophy. In a stretch that will be remembered for years to come, the Bison took down Valentine in a Friday night battle before setting their sights on Ainsworth, where they bulldozed the competition to claim the team title at the Ainsworth Invitational. Senior Bryce Kunz left his mark in dominant fashion, pinning his way to a championship and earning the Tyler Bower Outstanding Wrestler of the Tournament honor.
