Nebraska Christian and High Plains made the short drive to Osceola with thoughts of a longer drive to Burke Stadium in Omaha awaiting those who qualify. At the end of the hot, windy day, High Plains had qualified eight young men to pursue their dreams of chasing gold. The Storm was led by jumper Brodey Spurling as he leapt and bounded his way to a pair of gold medals in the long and triple jumps. Later, he joined teammates Levi Russell, Haden Helgoth and Gage Friesen to sprint to a win in the 4 X 100 relay, an event that High Plains has come to own in recent years. Not to be left out, shot putter Caleb Sharman joined the celebration at the top of the award stand by claiming the gold in his specialty. While not winning, Helgoth advanced to state in the 1600 by earning 2nd. Additionally, the 4 X 800 relay qualified on time by finishing 3rd. Helgoth, Friesen, Derek Talavera Flores and Carter Urkoski carried the baton for the Storm. Colin Howell grabbed 2nd in the high jump becoming the final qualifier for High Plains. On the women’s side, High Plains did not have any qualifiers, but Peyton Hoffman and Dakota Gress finished their fine year by leading the 4 X 400 to a 3rd place finish in the final event of the day. Well done, ladies!
