Three members of the Central City High School girls’ wrestling team exited the Columbus Community Fieldhouse with hardware last Thursday night, helping the Bison to a strong finish at the Norm Manstedt Girls Wrestling Invitational.

Up against a stacked field of wrestlers at last week’s Burwell Invite, the Nebraska Christian Eagles soared to impressive results, with Cal Siep headlining the effort with a bronze medal at 215 pounds.

High Plains struggled to keep pace with the Riverside Chargers last Tuesday as the Storm suffered their fifth loss of the regular season, 56-28. Brodey Spurling scored the first basket of the game, then the Chargers went on a 7-0 run.

The Central City Bison got the last word of 2025, with the Green and Gold blowing through the competition early at the Ord Holiday Duals before besting Grand Island Northwest by three points to secure the dual tournament championship.

Offense was difficult to come by in the early goings of Monday’s game between Central City and Nebraska Christian in the second round of the Runza Holiday Tournament. Seven quick points from Central City’s Karter Negus gave the Bison a 7-3 advantage, then a transition basket at the buzzer from Jaic Rathbone brought the tally to 9-3 going into the second frame.

In the championship round of the Runza Holiday Tournament in Central City, the hosting Bison unwrapped the first place trophy after notching a 54-35 win over Cross County. Prior to the tournament’s final, the Bison met up with cross town rival Nebraska Christian in the semifinal round and used some stingy defense and an early surge to come away with a 63-25 victory.

After a week away from the hardwood during the holiday break, High Plains Head Coach Megan Bruce wasn’t sure what to expect when the Storm took the court against Elba last Monday night. What the head coach saw play out in Howard County was a group of girls hungry for their fourth win of the season.

When the Central City girls catch fire offensively, there’s no putting it out. In last Friday’s home battle with Doniphan-Trumbull, the Lady Bison erupted for twenty-nine third quarter points to bolster a dominant 69-38 win over the Cardinals.
