USDA NASS announces release of 2022 census of agriculture

Data from the United States Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS) 2022 Census of Agriculture show the number of farms in Nebraska during 2022 was 44,479, down 4% from the 2017 Census of Agriculture. Land in farms, at 44.0 million acres was down 2% from that reported five years prior. Land in farms accounted for 89.4% of the total land area in the state compared to 38.9% for the U.S. The average size of farm in Nebraska was 989 acres, up 2% or 18 acres from 2017.

Recently, I read pieces written by my fellow com farmers showcasing how the Nebraska Com Board works for them and farmers statewide, and I wanted the opportunity to respond. As I have taken time to reflect on the work by NCB for farmers, one aspect I’ve noticed time and again is the direct impact I see from NCB’s efforts on my farming operation, which aligns with the decisions I make each day.

In a commanding display of basketball prowess, the Nebraska Christian Lady Eagles triumphed over Osceola with a resounding 75-57 victory, propelling them into the championship game of their subdistrict. The standout performance of the night came from Sheridan Falk, who not only scored a staggering 40 points but also collected 8 rebounds, leading her team with both skill and determination.

Merrick County embraces 4-H Month

February has been officially proclaimed as 4-H Month in Merrick County, a declaration that underscores the county’s commitment to youth development and community engagement. The Merrick County Board of Supervisors, in their meeting on Tuesday, February 13, 2024, unanimously agreed to this designation, following a proposal presented by Merrick County 4-H Ambassadors Chloe Jefferson and Shelby Hostler.

Senator Rickett’s team, Drivers License Examiner to hold Merrick County office hours

Residents of Merrick County will have the opportunity to engage with the office of U.S. Senator Pete Ricketts through the upcoming mobile office hours scheduled for February 22nd. The session, aimed at providing hands-on assistance with federal programs and benefits, will take place from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Merrick County Courthouse located at 1510 18th Street, Central City, NE.
