As the rain fell steadily over Broken Bow, turning the field into a slick battleground, the Central City Bison charged ahead with the ferocity of a team that knew exactly what was at stake. The sky might have been crying for the much-needed rain Merrick County had long awaited, but for the Bison, those droplets may as well have been confetti—a celebration of another step forward in what has become a remarkable season.

Bison claim first conference volleyball title since 2001

Last Thursday night at Centura High School, the Central City Bison volleyball team etched their names into the history books, securing the Lou-Platte Conference Championship. It was a monumental night filled with both the excitement of competition and the scent of pizza and hot dogs wafting through the gym, which was packed to witness the championship battle. Central City triumphed over Centura in a four-set thriller, marking their first conference title since 2001 and their inaugural volleyball title as members of the Lou-Platte Conference.

Bison cross country sends three to state

The Central City Bison cross country team has much to celebrate following a strong performance at last Thursday’s district meet, where three runners qualified for the NSAA State Cross Country Meet. Competing against tough competition, the Bison gave it their all and secured a spot for three determined athletes at the state championship, which will be held this Friday at the Kearney Country Club.

Eagles cross country dominates en route to state

The Nebraska Christian Eagles soared to victory at the Class D-4 District Cross Country Meet last Thursday, qualifying both their boys’ and girls’ teams for the NSAA State Cross Country Meet in Kearney this Friday. The boys were crowned district champions, while the girls finished a strong third, solidifying both teams’ places at the state competition.

Storm and Eagles fall just short of conference gold

It was a week of hard-fought battles for both Nebraska Christian and High Plains volleyball teams, as their respective journeys through the Goldenrod and Crossroads Conference tournaments came to heartbreaking conclusions. Though neither team achieved the outcome they hoped for, the effort and resilience displayed by both programs will be remembered as they turn their focus towards future opportunities.

In a season defined by perseverance, determination, and grit, the Central City High School softball team left it all on the field, finishing as district runner-up after a pair of tough losses to Guardian Angels Central Catholic (GACC). While the Bison’s dreams of a state tournament appearance were cut short, their journey throughout the season was nothing short of inspiring.
