Daily Activity Report Monday, September 5 Officer responded to a dog complaint in the area of Highway 30 and 16th Street, situation resolved. Officer responded to a suspicious vehicle in the 900 block of 16th Street, did not locate vehicle in the area.
Is Long Term Care important to us? That was the question asked of those in attendance at Tuesday morning’s Merrick County Board of Supervisors meeting following a lengthy discussion in regards to a project that would see improvements made to the current Litzenberg Long Term facility and the demolition of the portion of the building that once served as the home of our local hospital. In June of 2019 the Dinsdale family transferred 22 acres of land to the Merrick Medical Center Foundation signaling that big changes would be coming to our community in the upcoming years.
The September meeting for the City Council of Central City can also be a busy one as it often brings with it preparation for the next fiscal year and budget conversations. This year was no exceptions as the Council met with a full agenda and also welcomed a new face to the board as Junior Councilman Van Fasbender, a junior at Central City High School, began his duties.
Last Thursday brought with it a new and exciting opportunity to get out and shop local here in Central City. Thanks to the support of various local retail businesses, consumers were given the opportunity to shop under the Thursday night lights as participating locations opted to stay open late and welcome shoppers.
Get ready for a new shopping experience in Central City as Thursday has now become the day to get out and shop our local community thanks to a partnership from local companies. Today kicks off “Thursday Night Lights” a shopping experience that will see area businesses stay open until at least 7:00 pm.
This year homecoming week is quickly upon us as both Central City High School and High Plains Community headed into a busy week ahead of Friday nights big football game. At Central City High School, it will be a week of fun ended with the annual homecoming parade and royalty being crowned at Preferred Popcorn Field following a big matchup with Holdrege.
Five former student-athletes and a former head coach will be inducted into the University of Nebraska-Kearney Athletic Hall of Fame during ceremonies held during the school’s homecoming in late October. When the six newest members are honored there will be one local face in the crowd as she adds to her resume, already being a two-time member of the Central City High School Athletic Hall of Fame.
