Nebraska Legislative District 34 update

Welcome to the Legislative District 34 news! I have spent my first week in the Nebraska Legislature getting to know my fellow colleagues and introducing my first Legislative Bill (LB). LB 52 increases the existing $900,000 cap to $1,000,000 in the State Tuition Assistance Program that provides tuition assistance to members of our Nebraska National Guard.

20 Years Ago The Central City Area Chamber of Commerce recognized Layfayette Beauty Salon owner, Darla Belitz for 20 years of ownership. Kris Herbig and Trent Varley lead Central City wrestling with 15 victories each through the first half of the season.

Merrick Medical Center chosen for 2022 Guardian of Excellence Award

Multiple entities including Merrick Medical Center at Bryan Health have been recognized as a 2022 Human Experience Award winner by Press Ganey for outstanding achievement in physician and employee engagement. The awards are part of the organization’s annual ranking of the top hospitals and health systems in the country, according to performance in patient experience.

City Council holds meeting

For the first time in 2023 the City Council of Central City met for their regularly scheduled meeting and it was a meeting that will bring with it some changes to the community as we enter into a new year. One of the largest changes, as voted on by the people, Keno will become part of our community under the guidance of Nebraska Cooperative Government.

Superstar library plans for the future

Each year we all see the social media post and read the newspaper headlines telling us that the Central City Public Library was once again selected as one of the most prestigious libraries in the United States. It is easy to begin to forget just how big of an accomplishment the recognition is when it comes each year, but when a person slows down to think about the library’s run of success, it truly is amazing.

New look Lincoln Manor opens for business

On December 27th, the Lincoln Manor began their soft opening. The new owners, Jay and Jigna Patel, bought the Lincoln Manor back in April of last year. Since then, they have been working on renovating the restaurant and getting the staff hired. Opening the restaurant up to the public again. Many People have been very excited for the reopening of the historical steakhouse, ever since word got out of it coming under new ownership.
