If you have read any of the Museum’s previous articles, you know I like to write about history that all can relate to. One way to make history relatable is to make comparisons to modern experiences. We can learn a lot about ourselves by looking at how people handled similar situations in the past. Life’s everyday experiences can make for some of the most interesting stories.

Louise Brage Diary

Body
The Merrick County Historical Museum houses many treasures. One of which is the diary of Louise Brage. It is a small leather bound notebook with “First National Bank, Central City,” printed on the front. The name “August Brage” is written on the cover. One would assume that the writing contained in the book is that of August’s, but instead his sister, Louise, must have commandeered the book to use as her diary. Louise chronicled her daily life, January through May 1889.
