10 YEARS AGO Northern Hamilton County got its first taste of spring severe storm season last Tuesday as a system kicked off locally near Chapman. A string of overturned pivots, along with severe flooding, crop damage and infrastructure destruction characterized the storm system.

NEBRASKA CHRISTIAN SCHOOLS recently recognized three students who qualified for last month’s NSAA State Speech Championship in Kearney. Sophomore Honey Rae Merchant qualified in Informative Speaking. Senior Lincoln Grantham competed in Humorous Prose, earning a fifth-place finish. Junior Hadassah Rankin placed third in Persuasive Speaking and third in Extemporaneous Speaking. Coach Nicole Powell and Coach Jaclyn Smith assisted the students and the school’s entire speech team this year.

10 YEARS AGO Nebraska Game and Parks, with the assistance of the Merrick County Sheriff’s Office, were able to identify and cite three Hall County individuals for abandonment of waste, which is a Class III misdemeanor. Two of the individuals had been cited for illegally shooting Sandhill cranes, while the third had just been involved in searching out a way to dispose of the remains.
