As the wrestling season continues, we are now just a few short week’s away from the big push to finish the season. This past weekend many local wrestlers took the mat at the Cross County Bob Orsborn Classic looking to improve themselves and many found success along the way.

On Tuesday night the Bison of Central City High School made their way to Schuyler ahead of the winter storm for an exciting night of basketball. Both the girls’ and the boys’ squads were firing on all cylinders as Central City was able to wrap up a sweep on the night.

It is that time of the season once again as the Nebraska Christian Eagles find themselves in the hunt to be crowned the champions of the Goldenrod Conference. Both the boys and the girls squads entered into conference play this week and found success in their opening games.

The lone loss for the Central City High School basketball team now feels like a distant memory as the team has rattled off win after win since that sole blemish on their now 10-1 season record. It has already been a season for the record books with Ayden Zikmund joining the 1,000-point scoring club, but this past week added to the special season as Bison head coach BJ Blase secured his 200th career coaching victory.

It has been a season full of ups and downs for the Central City High School girls basketball team and that trend continued this past week. Tuesday night brought with it a tough 39-16 defeat at St. Paul, but prior to that the Bison were showing signs of good things to come for the young team.

As it does each year, the Central City Wrestling Invitational provided plenty of excitement this past Saturday to highlight a great week of wrestling from the Central City High School wrestling team. The Bison were able to bring to secure some big wins on Saturday and returned to action on Tuesday with a dominant dual victory.
