“Nebraska Farm Bureau strongly supports the goal of a legislative bill introduced today aimed at correcting the unintentional elimination of more than $550 million of refundable income tax credits for 2023 property taxes, which were paid in 2024. This oversight has resulted in many Nebraska property owners missing out on expected tax relief because the rules were changed in the middle of the game last August during the special legislative session called to lower property taxes.” “We applaud the swift actions taken by senators to amend this issue and strongly encourage the Legislature to prioritize the passage of this corrective legislation.

USDA reminds livestock producers of Disaster Assistance Application deadline for 2024 losses

The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Farm Service Agency (FSA) reminds producers, including dairy producers impacted by H5N1, that the deadline to apply for financial assistance through the Emergency Assistance for Livestock, Honeybees and Farm-raised Fish Program (ELAP) is Jan. 30, 2025, for losses due to specific adverse conditions that occurred in 2024.

Senator Loren Lippincott of Central City, representing District 34, introduced Legislative Bill 3 (LB3) on January 9 at the request of Governor Jim Pillen. The bill seeks to change Nebraska’s method of allocating electoral votes in presidential elections from its current congressional district-based system to a winner-take-all model.

Inventure Day inspires Merrick County seventh graders through creativity and collaboration

Central City Middle School was abuzz with energy on Tuesday, January 14, 2025, as over 120 seventh-grade students from across Merrick County participated in the annual Inventure Day. Organized by the Merrick County Extension and led by Extension Educator Emily Soll, the event introduced students to the world of entrepreneurship while fostering teamwork and creative thinking.
