Grant Brooks’ tour of Central City

Body
Everyone and everything has a story, even towns as small as Central City. On the surface, it’s just another Nebraska town people pass through to continue going about their lives. Below the crust, a tight-knit community sits nestled in place, full of good people, mouthwatering food, and fun-filled opportunities that are excellent choices for any season. These range from catching a movie at one of the city’s movie theaters, to cooling off on a hot day at the Aquatic Center, once a hot day actually comes around again. Even if one is a long-time resident, someone passing through, or are just here for a weekend, there’s always something to do if one looks in the right place.

The State of the Republican-Nonpareil

Body
When I took over as publisher of the Central City Republican-Nonpareil in January of 2021, I found myself at the helm of a legacy steeped in history, pride, and resilience. Ours is a story that stretches back to 1872, when The Merrick County News first began chronicling the lives of this community. It is a story that has weathered depressions, wars, floods, and the rise of modern technology.

Kappa Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma Society International

Body
Kappa Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma Society International met on November 21, 2024, at Central City Public Library. Emphasis of the day was celebration of DKG Founders, so as the meeting began, member Nola Oberhelman of Group 5 invited all to do a little research about those who have historically been part of DKG in our area. Kappa Chapter includes current members from Merrick, Howard, Nance, Platte, and Adams Counties, as well as a reserve member in Dodge County, so the investigation was informative and entertaining. Everyone received a question that would be answered and shared at times during the meeting, as well as time to look for their answers. Answers to all questions were readily at hand with a little looking or personal knowledge. By meeting’s end, all had learned interesting facts and anecdotes from some Kappa members who knew/were taught by those ladies.
