The 2025 Merrick County 4-H Archery contest was held on Tuesday, February 25th and Tuesday, March 11th. The Merrick County X-Factor Archery Club held practices on Tuesdays from October through January. In order to compete in the Archery Contest, each participant must attend at least 4 of those practices.

During the next several weeks, U.S. Department of Agriculture’s National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS) will conduct the June Agricultural Survey. The agency will contact producers across Nebraska to determine crop acreage and stock levels as of June 1, 2025.

For the week ending May 11, 2025, there were 6.6 days suitable for fieldwork, according to the USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service. Topsoil moisture supplies rated 34% very short, 42% short, 24% adequate, and 0% surplus. Subsoil moisture supplies rated 35% very short, 43% short, 22% adequate, and 0% surplus.

Newly minted Liberty University football coach Ron Brown--known around Nebraska for his years as an assistant coach for the Big Red and for his various ministries - was the commencement speaker at Nebraska Christian’s Saturday graduation ceremony. As he has often done in the past, Heartland Evangelical Free Church associate pastor Scott Johnson served as the master of ceremonies at last week’s National Day of Prayer gathering in Central City.

Jade Erickson of Central City has earned a certificate in sales excellence at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and was honored at a May 2 luncheon hosted by the Center for Sales Excellence. Erickson is a senior majoring in management.

Governor Pillen will visit Central City and Clarks tomorrow (Friday, May 16th) for ribbon-cutting ceremonies in each community. The public is invited to attend each event. The Governor and others will gather at 1808 Ash Avenue (Central City) at 3:30 pm to celebrate the completion of new Rural Workforce Housing (RWH) projects with local leadership. An open house will also be held beginning at 3:00 pm for the public to tour the new home. Central City’s ribbon-cutting event celebrates one of 31 housing units funded with RWH dollars in the development area.
