City Council bids Banks farewell

The Central City Council met for its regular session on Monday, August 11, working through a full slate of business that ranged from nuisance property rulings to franchise renewals and a council resignation that will soon see a new face in City Hall. The evening was highlighted with the announcement that Ward 2 representative Kegnide “Banks” Bankole has resigned his seat effective Tuesday, after moving into the opposite ward. His departure, while a loss for the council, comes with the assurance that Mayor Tim Bolling will appoint a replacement to keep the ward represented.

USDA forecasts U.S. corn production up and soybean production down from 2024

The Crop Production report issued today by USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS) forecasted corn production up from 2024 and soybean production down from last year. Corn production is up 13% from last year, forecast at 16.7 billion bushels; soybean growers are expected to decrease their production 2% from 2024, forecast at 4.29 billion bushels..
