10 YEARS AGO A “rather large” garden of solar panels was recently constructed within the city. The collection of panels—200 kilowatts worth—is large enough that it has grown into the state’s largest solar array.

The Nebraska State Fair is just two days away. Get ready to Showcase Your Fair Face at this year’s celebration at Fonner Park in Grand Island. The eleven-day event begins Friday, August 22nd, and runs through Labor Day, Monday, September 1st. From the first gate opening to the last closing night, visitors will find the fairgrounds alive with entertainment, agriculture, and attractions, all spread across the Family Fun Zone, the Market Place, the Livestock Block, and the Grand District.

The University of Nebraska–Lincoln conferred 556 degrees during a combined graduate and undergraduate commencement ceremony on August 16th at Pinnacle Bank Arena in Lincoln. The 548 graduates were from thirty-nine countries; thirty-four states and Puerto Rico; and seventy-plus Nebraska communities.

The summer driving season is rolling to a stop and the Nebraska State Patrol is working to keep roadways safe. Troopers throughout Nebraska will be working overtime for the next few weeks as part of the national Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over campaign.
