10 YEARS AGO A “rather large” garden of solar panels was recently constructed within the city. The collection of panels—200 kilowatts worth—is large enough that it has grown into the state’s largest solar array.

RESIDENTS RECYCLE OLD TIRES

MERRICK COUNTY’S recent tire amnesty took place at the Merrick County Fairgrounds on Saturday. The event, which could accept up to 250 tons of tires, drew a large crowd of county residents. Above, Brent Wells with the City of Central City helped participants unload tires during last week’s collection. Nebraska State Fair to begin this Friday in Grand Island

The Nebraska State Fair is just two days away. Get ready to Showcase Your Fair Face at this year’s celebration at Fonner Park in Grand Island. The eleven-day event begins Friday, August 22nd, and runs through Labor Day, Monday, September 1st. From the first gate opening to the last closing night, visitors will find the fairgrounds alive with entertainment, agriculture, and attractions, all spread across the Family Fun Zone, the Market Place, the Livestock Block, and the Grand District.

The summer driving season is rolling to a stop and the Nebraska State Patrol is working to keep roadways safe. Troopers throughout Nebraska will be working overtime for the next few weeks as part of the national Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over campaign.
