Annual Chapman Fall Festival a success

Body This past Saturday, Chapman held their Fall Festival. The event started around 10:00 am, but the cooks who were in charge of the brisket and ribs that would be served at the end of the event, got started as early as 6:00 in the morning.
All Aboard This past Saturday brought with it plenty of fun for the residents and visitors to Chapman as they hosted their annual Fall Festival. The day featured plenty of exciting family entertainment options, shopping and even a parade through town. Merrick County GOP focuses meeting on local educaon

Body On Monday, September 12th. The GOP of Merrick County held their meeting at the venture center. The theme that night was mostly centered on Education; with candidates Julie Hehnke and Sherry Jones there to speak, who are both running for offices related to state education.
Leading the Way At the Merrick County GOP meeting Sherry Jones, candidate for State Board of Education and others discussed education in Nebraska. Many turned out to hear from candidates who will seek office in November.

Thursday night shopping continues

Body Any day is a great opportunity to get out and explore all the great businesses that Central City has to offer, but Thursday night continues to be the premier night for shopping in our community.

Body This past Saturday the Merrick Arts Council returned for another exciting season and in doing so they provided a special show for many who turned out to take in the talents of the Hastings Symphony Orchestra.

Outdoor family fun planned

Body Since the Central City Sportsman’s Club purchased the land that they previously leased from Merrick County, they have looked for ways to improve the club while also keeping safety a top priority.
Take Aim Wednesday evenings at the Central City Sportsman’s Club you will see shooters taking aim, but on Saturday September 24, the same group will aim to welcome guests as they celebrate the 50th year of National Hunting and Fishing Day with an open house beginning at 9:00 am.

New vehicle ordinance begins

Body R-N Reporter Now, as of September 9th, a new city ordinance has gone into effect. Allowing the citizens of Central City to drive alternative vehicles in city limits. This will include ATV’s, UTV’s and Golf carts.
All Legal Central City resident Elliot Grosshans smiles after being one of the first local residents to take advantage of the new Alternative Vehicle ordinance that took effect last Friday. Once his UTV was registered, Grosshans was legal to travel on Central City streets.

Body Improve Tree and Shrub Health Though Fall Watering This summer has been hot, hot, hot! Lincoln had 54, 90+ F days from May through August 31st. In unwatered portions of the landscape many are seeing cracked soil - a good indication conditions are dry.
Even mature trees like this spruce benefit from watering during dry summer and fall conditions.

Corn Growers Association holds plot tour

Body The Merrick County Local Chapter of the Nebraska Corn Growers Association held their first annual plot tour on Wednesday 9/7 near worms. We had about 30 area farmers tour the plot with numerous companies having seed hybrids showcased.
