Senator Loren Lippincott • District 34 THANKSGIVING AND GRATITUDE Have you ever given to someone something of value and not received a thank you or even an acknowledgment of the gift? How did you feel about that? As Saint Ambrose said, “No duty is more urgent than that of returning thanks,” but in today’s America, the Land of Plenty, instead of gratitude we see a growing attitude of entitlement. As we look to the origins of the Thanksgiving holiday in America we see that true thankfulness is forged in the fires of adversity.

NPPD approves rate increase

Nebraska Public Power District’s (NPPD) board of directors approved a three percent retail and one percent wholesale rate increase during November’s regularly scheduled meeting. The average residential retail customer uses around 1,000 kilowatts of electricity a month, and based on this amount, would experience an increase of just over five dollars per month.

Extension marks twenty-five years of nutrition education partnership

For a quarter century, Nebraska Extension’s Nutrition School Enrichment Kits program has helped Lincoln Public Schools students build healthy habits for life. Since its launch in 2000, the program has reached more than 184,000 students in over 10,000 classrooms, teaching youth the importance of health, nutrition and physical activity.

10 YEARS AGO Members of the Central City Council presented an offer to Solt-Wagner Funeral Home to purchase their property south of Kwik Stop and Rodeway Inn. After some minor remodeling, city offices will be moved to the new location.

Bella Tu cuts ribbon on storefront

Bella Tu Soaps and Apothecary, a home and body shop, joined the Central City business community over the weekend. The roughly twoyear- old business, which grew out of a hobby Owner Heidi Catlett developed while recovering from surgery, officially marked its move to downtown Central City with a ribbon-cutting and open house at its new home, the former State Farm office at 407 G Street, on Saturday, November 15th.
