The streets of Central City will brim with patriotic spirit this Veterans Day as residents gather to honor the courage and sacrifice of our nation’s heroes. The day’s events, organized by the Central City American Legion Post #6, are a testament to the community’s reverence for those who have served.

As clocks all across the land ready for the “fall back” period, nations including the U.S., Canada, and Cuba ready to adjust their timepieces. But the practice of daylight saving time is under renewed scrutiny.

On Wednesday, October 25, 2023, Merrick County Extension collaborated with Central City High School to present the “Connecting the Dots” event at the Performing Arts Center (PAC) and the middle school gym in Central City. The enlightening event brought together ninth graders from Central City, Palmer, Nebraska Christian, and High Plains schools.

Nebraska Christian vocal and instrumental instructor Mike Flynn was pleased to find that six of his students have been named two of this year’s various All-State music ensembles. Selected this year are vocalists Scott Smith, Ethan Unruh, Chase Kvols, Zoe Flynn, and Katie Cumpston.

Students and instructors from 40 high schools met near Broken Bow to compete in State Land Judging on October 25. The Lower Loup Natural Resources District (NRD) partnered with the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) to host the annual competition.
