Benny Bison stood at the edge of his family's meadow, his hooves shuffling nervously in the soft earth. The sun was just beginning to rise, casting long shadows across the rolling hills. Today was the first day of school, and Benny was feeling a knot of anxiety twist in his stomach.

For the week ending August 4, 2024, there were 6.7 days suitable for fieldwork, according to the USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service. Topsoil moisture supplies rated 12% very short, 37% short, 47% adequate, and 4% surplus.
We played horseshoes on Sunday the 28th for the fair… we played 40 shoes and everyone played each other..we had 3 people tie for first place with 4 wins and 2 losses…and 2 people tie for 4th with 3 wins and 3 loses.. In the order they placed pictured l-r: Karla Stelk, Marvin Garbers, CJ McIlheran, Kurt Mesner, Rick Parker, Paisley McIlheran and Donnie Parker..

Tradition and generations of hard work were the highlights of Sunday night at the Merrick County Fair, as two local families were honored for by Ak-Sar-Ben and the Merrick County Fair Board for marking 100 years of consecutive land ownership in the county.
