What a week it has been and what a weekend it was. It sure was nice to have a break from watching the Huskers lose, but that Bison game on Friday night sure did sting a bit all through the weekend.

2022-23 Bison Afterschool Program It’s hard to believe it, but we are getting ready to start the fifth year for the Bison After school Program. Offered to students in grades 3-6, the program’s mission is to “promote healthy choices and love for learning in a positive environment of cooperation and support.” At the after school program, students eat a healthy snack and participate in a wide variety of engaging activities while spending time with friends.

You may not have realized when it was 100 degrees on Tuesday, but football season is in full swing and that means the Dodge Journey and I are getting plenty of miles in together. Friday was a fun day as I headed to Spalding to watch Nebraska Christian until halftime and then I made my way across the state to Fort Calhoun where the Bison were playing.

Over the years, Nebraskans have built thousands of miles of trails, rails, power lines, and highways to connect our state. This connectivity has helped our urban and rural communities thrive.

The students in the Central City High School Bison Band have been hard at work in preparation for the parade and field show at this year’s Harvest of Harmony event in Grand Island. If you had the opportunity to catch a preview of the show at the Homecoming football game against Holdrege on September 9th you would have seen students involved in all sorts of activities including some in football gear and dance uniforms. The dedication and commitment level of these students is second to none and does not go unnoticed. As their director I am always amazed at those students that manage to balance their time between of course being a great student but also a large list of athletics and other elective activities. Given the time-frame for rehearsal, these students have done an excellent job in putting together a great marching show and have gained a lot of experience in the process. This is a testament to the kind of culture that the students involved in our program have strived to create.

The 22-23 school year is progressing quickly. Hard to think we are already a month into the school year. The fall semester is filled with opportunities for students and community members to be involved in our youths’ lives.
