Every year, athletic trainers (AT) everywhere are celebrated and recognized during the month of March for National Athletic Training Month. While the role of an AT is typically a behindthe- scenes kind of gig, this month puts the spotlight on ATs and the crucial role they provide in an athlete’s healthcare.

Here we are once again at the end of another week for me and the middle or end of your week depending on when you are reading this. It was another busy and exciting week for us here at the R-N. The highly anticipated school musical and the return of spring sports made for an exciting week.

This month’s State Board of Education meeting convened on Thursday, March 2nd and Friday, March 3rd at the Marriott Cornhusker Hotel in Lincoln. During Friday’s public meeting, Wakefield Community Schools, of District 6, was recognized for being one of two Nebraska schools, among 55 across the United States, named 2022 National ESEA (Elementary Secondary Education Act) Distinguished Schools.

How is it possible that we are already on the backside of March? The past month has flown by at a blistering rate and it seems like just a couple days ago that I was in Omaha for state wrestling. The daily grind of life must be catching up with me because I really don’t know where the time has gone.

As the third quarter draws to a close this week, this will mark an end to one of the busiest periods of time in Central City. Over the last few weeks, the Bison Activity Dome and the community of Central City have hosted a number of events. When the BisonActivity Dome or other public school venues host events, a number of people are brought to our community to utilize our restaurants, gas stations, and shops. The community and school both win during these situations.

Greetings from the Central City Chamber of Commerce! This column has been absent from our spot in the R-N for a few weeks however we have been busy catching up???? We held a successful Chamber Gala in January. Thanks to our board of directors for all of their hard work planning and setting up for the event.

March Madness is officially here! Central City High School is headed back to the state basketball tournament for the first time in 76 years. The last team that competed in the NSAA State Basketball Tournament was in 1947.

I can’t explain my feelings as I sit here in my office typing this. In some ways I feel like I have crossed some sort of finish line after a week of absolute craziness. In other ways I feel like the week is still going because at some point I will stop running and have to work through the pain and heartache that came my way.

Forgive me if you call and I don’t answer. I sit here now at my desk looking over at my that black box of technology dreading the next time that it will ring. I sit here in the midst of perhaps the most challenging week of my life and to think that it all began with a phone call on Friday afternoon.
