This Thanksgiving holiday, local law enforcement is teaming up with the U.S. Department of Transportation’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) Region 7, which includes Arkansas, Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, and Nebraska, to promote a high-visibility Click It or Ticket seat belt awareness campaign. For the duration of the Thanksgiving Holiday weekend (Wednesday, November 27 through the morning of Monday, December 2) the law enforcement community will be working together to reduce the number of fatalities and serious injuries that occur when vehicle passengers fail to buckle up. If you’re unbuckled, you may be pulled over and issued a ticket.

The Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services emphasizes the importance of taking preventative steps to keep Nebraskan families and communities healthy.

Time is running out for thousands of farmers and ranchers who may face steep fines and possible jail time for failing to file their businesses with the federal government. Jan. 1, 2025, is the deadline to file Beneficial Ownership Information (BOI) with the U.S. Department of Treasury’s new Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN) created under the Corporate Transparency Act of 2021.

High school juniors from across Merrick County’s schools spent the day at the courthouse in Central City. They were split into two large groups and were able to experience various activities in the courthouse.

The Merrick County Republican Party will hold its next meeting on Monday, Dec. 2, 2024, at ISI Solar, located at 1620 19th Street in Central City. The event begins with coffee and cookies at 6:30 p.m., followed by the meeting at 7 p.m.

The Central City Sportsman’s Club, in collaboration with the Merrick County 4-H Trap Team, hosted its fourth annual gun show last weekend at the Merrick County Fairgrounds. The event drew a significant crowd of firearms enthusiasts, collectors, and community members eager to explore a diverse array of offerings.

The Central City High School FFA Chapter celebrated its newest members and recognized achievements during a special ceremony held Monday, Nov. 18. The evening included the presentation of FFA jackets to new members, as well as the awarding of Chapter and Greenhand Degrees. The event highlighted the chapter’s commitment to fostering leadership, personal growth, and career success in agricultural education.
