Click It or Ticket Have a Fine Thanksgiving, Not a Thanksgiving Fine

This Thanksgiving holiday, local law enforcement is teaming up with the U.S. Department of Transportation’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) Region 7, which includes Arkansas, Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, and Nebraska, to promote a high-visibility Click It or Ticket seat belt awareness campaign. For the duration of the Thanksgiving Holiday weekend (Wednesday, November 27 through the morning of Monday, December 2) the law enforcement community will be working together to reduce the number of fatalities and serious injuries that occur when vehicle passengers fail to buckle up. If you’re unbuckled, you may be pulled over and issued a ticket.

Farmers and ranchers should note upcoming Corporate Transparency Act deadline

Time is running out for thousands of farmers and ranchers who may face steep fines and possible jail time for failing to file their businesses with the federal government. Jan. 1, 2025, is the deadline to file Beneficial Ownership Information (BOI) with the U.S. Department of Treasury’s new Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN) created under the Corporate Transparency Act of 2021.

The event drew a significant crowd of firearms enthusiasts, collectors, and community members eager to explore a diverse array of offerings.

Local students and alumnus earn honors at NMEA All-State

Two Nebraska Christian students were selected to participate in the prestigious Nebraska All-State Chorus, and Central City High School alumnus Colton Kohl was recognized as the Nebraska Music Education Association (NMEA) Young Music Educator of the Year. These honors were part of the 2024 NMEA All-State Ensembles and conference held November 20-22 on the University of Nebraska-Lincoln campus.

Central City FFA welcomes new members with jacket ceremony and degree awards

The Central City High School FFA Chapter celebrated its newest members and recognized achievements during a special ceremony held Monday, Nov. 18. The evening included the presentation of FFA jackets to new members, as well as the awarding of Chapter and Greenhand Degrees. The event highlighted the chapter’s commitment to fostering leadership, personal growth, and career success in agricultural education.

Last Wednesday Merrick Medical Center once again hosted a successful Men’s Night event at the Merrick County Fairgrounds. The night featured conversations on men’s health topics while maintaining a manly and fun atmosphere. Merrick Medical staff, such as Dr. Blake Cover, took turns speaking, but the night was also full of vendors and fellowship with others in the community. Even the great Ray Huggett greeted attendees.
