Sometimes you will find me writing lengthy and well thought out personal thoughts. If you came here for that this week, you are going to be rather disappointed.

I hope you have your costume ready and a BIG bucket to collect goodies as we eagerly anticipate our annual chamber Parade of Goblins this coming Sunday, October 27.

Editor: I read with interest the recent article written in the Republican- Non-Pareil about the upcoming vote on whether the citizens of Merrick County will vote to discontinue townships or continue with the township form of government.

A leader rejects passivity, accepts responsibility and leads courageously. However, in politics, “leaders” often pander to those with the loudest voices, have the largest “identity groups”, and have the broadest appeals.

As a professional journalist, I’ve spent years looking at the world through a lens of accountability. I’ve watched stories unfold, followed the rise and fall of local leaders and captured the highs and lows of our community.

Editor: I witnessed in South Park (Central City) 3 boys (10-14 years) climbing to the top of the Veterans memorial. Then jumping off.

Voting has begun! Early voting began Oct. 7 in Nebraska, but the sad fact of this or any other election is that nationally only 67 percent of the population who are eligible to vote are actually registered to vote, meaning 33 percent of Americans are not registered to vote!

Bison Nation, what a week it’s been! The week started off with the annual homecoming parade on Thursday, and it was a sight to see.

What an exciting time to be a bison! Along with the success of the athletic teams and other clubs, we can’t forget about the fantastic work being done inside the classroom by our students as well.

As is to be expected with such a controversial issue, there is some confusion, misinformation and, frankly, some downright disinformation circulating about the Protect Women and Children ballot initiative which addresses the subject of abortion.
