How better to celebrate the birthday of a deceased loved one than by putting time and effort into something that is important to him and his family? The family and friends of Archer’s Kasey Eddy spent Saturday afternoon and evening hours cleaning, fixing, painting, and otherwise improving Archer Park. Cornerstone Juniors shortstop Mikey Murray makes an incredible circus catch while colliding with center fielder Tucker Schneiderheinz during the Juniors 2-1 win over Shelton-Gibbon Monday at Kernel Field.

On May 23, the Friday before Memorial Day, a new commemorative plaque honoring the crew of the USS Merrick was established at the new Merrick County Historical Museum. The plaque was put up on a pillar in the main lobby facing the showroom, so anyone exited will be able to see the metal memorial on their way out. The memorial portrays a shockingly clear picture of the USS Merrick, with the text “In honor and remembrance of all who served aboard” below it.

The flags didn’t wave much this Memorial Day—not in the still gray air that hung over Central City Cemetery like a hymn. They stood motionless, soaked from the sky, as if even they were mourning. Beneath their silent watch, a crowd assembled in quiet reverence, knowing the rain would not interrupt what needed to be remembered.
