First painting hung in Central City Historical Museum’s new gallery

Friday, June 6 was a momentous day for the history of Central City. The museum decided to keep the streak of high-caliber days that the Bike Ride Across Nebraska set the day before by hanging the museum gallery’s very first painting. The painting, created by prolific Nebraska painter Todd Williams, depicted Sitting Bull, a prominent Native American warrior and ancestor to the White Bull family in Central City.

Central City Riverfront Project shares prosperous vision of the future

Many new opportunities for outdoor fun may be in the cards for Central City’s future, as the Platte PEER Group is shining a spotlight on the Central City Riverfront Project in celebration of National Fishing and Boating Week, which took place from June 1-9. The project is a community-driven initiative to protect over 100 acres of Platte River frontage and develop a public lake and recreation area just south of Central City.

Property owners across Merrick County should be checking their mailboxes as 2025 Notices of Valuation Change have been mailed out by the Merrick County Assessor’s Office. The notices reflect updated assessed property values based on recent sales and assessment activity, with changes taking effect as of January 1, 2025.
