CORONATION TO CAP HOMECOMING

Twelve selected as candidates for homecoming royalty at CCHS Central City High School is celebrating homecoming this week. The pinnacle of the five-day celebration will be the coronation of the high school’s 2025 homecoming king and queen following Friday night’s football game against Adams Central.

Homework: Too much or not enough

The mothers in my office do not look forward to the starting of school because of the busy balance of homework, music lessons, other after-school activities, and sports activities. But as students head back to school it is definitely time to think about homework. Here is the cycle: teachers assign and grade it; parents remind their students about it and maybe assist with homework; teenagers especially complain about it, enjoy it or forget it, and maybe complete it. Researchers agree that homework is an essential ingredient of a student’s school success.

Area FFA chapters give back

Nebraska and Iowa FFA chapters united to help feed those in need in Hall, Hamilton, Howard, and Merrick Counties during Husker Harvest Days. “People have no idea how many struggle with food insecurity, and those whose next meal is not a guarantee is too many,” said Karen Rathke, Heartland United Way president and chief professional officer.

CORN BOARD STRESSES SAFETY THIS HARVEST SEASON

As harvest season approaches, the Nebraska Corn Board (NCB) and Nebraska Corn Growers Association (NeCGA) are reminding farmers, rural communities and motorists to prioritize safety during National Farm Safety and Health Week, September 2127. This year’s theme, “Safety First, Avoid the Worst,” highlights the importance of taking proactive steps to prevent accidents during one of the busiest and most dangerous times of the year in agriculture.

Learning, networking opportunities part of ag day

With a nearly 600acre farm, it’s fitting that Northeast Community College hosts an annual Agronomy Field Day. The Chuck Pohlman Ag Complex, Acklie Family College Farm and Urban Farm were used for the fifth such event on Tuesday, September 16th, enabling students to learn about some of the latest technological and other advancements in agriculture.
