I would like to thank all of the members of the CC Volunteer Fire Dept. for getting out of warm beds in the middle of the night on an 16th to put out a house fire in fidged temperatures on 14th Ave. In addition to that most if not all of these men had to get ready to go to work shortly after returning home from the fire. Thank you for giving your time to protect our community.

MAC welcomes Dallas Brass

Despite the cold weather and snowy conditions, many people made it down to the Performing Arts Center for a special show put on by the Dallas Brass this past Friday. Featuring band students from many surrounding schools, with many songs being played from different eras and styles, the Dallas Brass guided everyone in attendance through a wide and wonderful world of music.

Merrick County Historical Museum features Heritage Treasures at meeting

On Sunday, January 21, the Merrick County Historical Museum held a presentation at the venture center. They had a special theme for the day on Heritage Treasures in a show and tell format. The meeting started with an election for Six officers for the Board of Directors for the Museum. Two of the positions for the board had been recently added. Everyone in attendance got to cast their vote.

Nebraska 2023 annual crop production summary

Corn for grain production in Nebraska based on year-end surveys is estimated at 1.73 billion bushels, up 19% from 2022, according to the USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service. Yield of 182 bushels per acre is up 17 bushels from last year. Farmers harvested 9.50 million acres of corn for grain, up 8% from 2022. Corn for silage production is 4.76 million tons, down 11% from last year. Silage yield of 17.0 tons per acre is up 4.5 tons from last year. Corn for silage harvested acreage of 280,000 acres is down 150,000 acres from last year. Corn acreage planted for all purposes is 9.95 million acres, up 4% from last year.

Registration Open for CPNRD’s Annual Water Programs Update on February 6th in Central City

Encouraging results of new data-driven fertigation, the spring weather forecast, and the Perkins Canal will all be featured at Central Platte NRD’s Annual Water Programs Update to be held Tuesday, February 6, 2024, at the Merrick County Fairgrounds in Central City. Guest speakers for the one-day event include: · KhrisStaton,Sentinel Fertigation Implementation Specialist Staton will share the results of 2023 N-time data-driven fertigation trials in central Nebraska.
