The Central City Water Department will begin its annual fall fire hydrant flushing Monday October 3-7. The purpose is to remove iron and manganese build ups in the mains, and to ensure all fire hydrants are operating properly. If you notice discolored water refrain from doing laundry until it clears up. You may also want to isolate ice makers to avoid clogging filters. The water is bacteria free but you should avoid drinking it if it is extremely discolored. The Central Platte Natural Resources District (CPNRD) will start taking applications to transfer irrigated acres for the 2023 growing season on September 1, 2022. The application period will end on March 1, 2023.
The Hastings Symphony Orchestra will be presenting the first show for Merrick Arts Council’s new season this Saturday, September 10 at 3:00 p.m. Their performance will be a light-hearted show of “Greatest Hits” under the direction of Dr. Byron Jensen.

CCPL Youth Librarian The 2022 Oceans of Possibilities Summer Reading Program was busy with lots of programs attended and many, many minutes read! The most attended program held was Magician Jeff Quinn with around 170 adults and children. This program was supported by the Merrick Foundation with a grant awarded to us given by Ed and Laurie Dexter.
