When you are a little kid, no one is smarter than your parents. You idolize them.

Monday morning, as I scrambled out the door and off to my first event of the week—the Arcadia Fall Festival Parade—out of the corner of my eye, I caught a glimpse of the front end of my vehicle, and my heart skipped a beat.

In recent weeks, I’ve been grateful to be able to speak with many Nebraskans across the Third District’s eighty counties. While I make the most of the time I have in Nebraska throughout the year, the month of August provides a unique opening in the congressional calendar to connect with the people of our state.

I don’t think this is earthshattering news, but if there is one thing that all newspapers fret over, it is correctly spelling names. When I purchased my first newspaper and moved to Elm Creek, I soon discovered that there were four different spellings of the surname “Meyer”—Meier, Myer, Meyer, and Myers.

The inalienable rights asserted by our Founders—life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness—cannot exist without proper respect for the rule of law. This starts at our borders and then flows through every branch of federal, state, and local government throughout our country. Faced with unprecedented challenges in maintaining the rule of law, Congress and the Trump administration have taken bold actions which are yielding remarkable results.

The Nebraska State Fair will be highlighting Nebraska’s best for the next ten days. Troopers with the Nebraska State Patrol will be working to ensure the event is safe for everyone in attendance. The fair began Friday and will run through Labor Day, September 1st, at Fonner Park in Grand Island.

The Merrick Arts Council (MAC) season begins in one month, making now the perfect time to renew your membership or join for the first time. Early bird prices for a season ticket are fifty dollars for five shows with the price going up to sixty dollars after September 5th.

Senator Loren Lippincott • District 34 At a time when public trust in government is fragile and civic discourse is under attack, the conduct of elected officials must reflect the dignity and responsibility of their office. State senators who resort to profanity, glorify violence, and openly oppose the lawful operations of the United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) betray the public trust and undermine the principles of democratic governance.

The transition from summer to fall is a busy time in the Cornhusker State. As farmers prepare for harvest and the new football and volleyball seasons arrive, parents and students are gearing up to go back to school and teachers are working hard for the start of a new semester.
