Larry Eugene Kyes January 28, 1940 - February 23, 2025

Larry Eugene Kyes, 85, of Las Vegas, NV, died on Sunday, Feb. 23, 2025 at a hospital in Vegas with his family by his side.

Graveside services will be June 21st at the Central City Cemetery at 10:30 a.m.with Pastor Gordon Paulsen officiating.

Mr. Kyes was born on Jan. 28, 1940 in rural Merrick County, the fifth of seven children born to Dean and Erma (Gleason) Kyes. He attended country school Dist. 23 through 8th grade and then graduated from Central City High School in 1958. He attended UNL and was a member of Farmhouse Fraternity. He also served time in the Army and National Guard. Larry was a member of Fairview United Methodist Church while growing up.

Larry excelled in his career with the Bureau of Reclamation. He started his career at Sherman Reservoir near Loup City and then Grand Coulee Dam in Washington State then the Central Valley Project in CA and then the Hoover Dam, in Nevada. After retirement he continued to contract with the Bureau on projects in CA, AZ and CO.

Larry was united in marriage to Lorraine Louise Thomas and together they adopted two sons, Aaron and Alex. Larry later married Karin Beth Echelini and together they have a son, Randy.

Larry was an excellent father to his three sons and his only granddaughter, Danielle. Larry loved his gardening and yard work and his Nebraska roots and remembered his fun times playing cards and games with family when he’d return home for a visit. Family was very important to Larry. He especially enjoyed the Kyes homemade (chocolate) ice cream with is visits back home.

Survivors of the immediate family include his wife, Karin, sons Alex and Randy and his granddaughter, Danielle. His siblings; Joan Moyer of Ridgway, CO, Edward and Marilyn Kyes of Central City, sisters-in-law Deloris Kyes and Mary Ann Kyes both of Central City, daughter-in-law Laura Kyes and numerous nieces and nephews and cousins.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents, son Aaron, siblings Robert Kyes, Dorla and LeRoy Schoreder, Rosalie and Jerry Johnson, Marvin Kyes and brother-in-law, Dennis Moyer.
