Born to Robert and Audrey (Bishop) Stuart, on January 21, 1941, Duane grew up in Central City, where he attended Central City High School, graduating in May 1960.
On November 24, 1962, Duane married the love of his life, Judy Konwinski. Together, they embarked on a journey filled with love, dedication, and countless cherished memories.
Duane’s life was one of resilience, hard work, and innovation. After briefly residing in Sacramento, California during his youth, Duane returned to Central City, where he established deep roots. He began his career at a local gas station before eventually taking ownership. Later, he transitioned to Christensen Cattle, where his skills, work ethic and leadership shone brightly.
In 1986, Duane’s inventive mind led him to design a cattle feed bunk slip form. This sparked the beginning of Double D Bunks, a business venture he co-founded with his wife, Judy, along with Dean and Carroll Christensen as investors. Their dedication and hard work paid off, as Double D Bunks quickly gained recognition within the industry, even being featured in Beef Magazine. Under Duane’s leadership, Double D Bunks flourished, becoming a successful business. He ran the business with his wife, Judy, until 2001 when he retired & passed the reins to his youngest son, Troy.
Duane’s impact transcends his career achievements. He served as a volunteer fireman, a lifelong member of River Rats, and a sponsor for Ducks Unlimited. During his leisure moments, he found solace in the outdoors, whether fishing, hunting ducks, capturing moments through his camera lens, whipping up duck blind delicacies, or simply observing wildlife in its natural habitat.
He was a devoted family man, survived by his loving wife, Judy, and their children: Tammy (Tim) Williams, Tracy (Tatjana) Stuart, Todd (Jane) Stuart, Tanya (Charlie) Iron Thunder, and Troy (Amy) Stuart.
He will be deeply missed by his siblings, sister Mary (Larry) Rakowsky and sister-in-law Carol Stuart, as well as his 12 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, and cousins, whose lives he touched with his kindness, wisdom, and unwavering love.
Duane was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Audrey Stuart, his brothers Charlie and Jim Stuart, his sister Carol Stuart, and his son Terry Stuart.
Duane’s memory will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew him, as his spirit continues to inspire and uplift all who were fortunate enough to have crossed paths with him. Rest in peace, Duane, knowing that your legacy of love and dedication will endure for generations to come.
