Alden “Mort” L. Grosch, 77 of Albion, passed away Tuesday, July 18, 2023, at Boone County Health Center, Albion.

Funeral services were at 10:30 a.m., Monday, July 24, 2023, at Zion Lutheran Church, Albion, NE with Pastor Carolann Hopcke officiating. Interment was at Rose Hill Cemetery, Albion with military rites conducted by American Legion Post #162, VFW Post #736, Army Funeral Honor Guard, and the American Legion Riders. Visitation was Sunday from 4-6 p.m. at the church.

com Alden Lee Grosch, son of G.W. and Elsie Margaret (Kohl) Grosch, was born on December 4, 1945 at the Lutheran Hospital in Columbus. He attended a rural school near Silver Creek before attending Silver Creek High School, graduating with the class of 1964. After high school, he was drafted into the United States Army on December 22, 1965 and served until receiving an honorable discharge on September 25, 1967.

On April 6, 1968, Mort married the love of his life Mary Martin in Silver Creek. Mort worked with his father and brothers on the family farm and well drilling business, Grosch Irrigation. He and Mary began their life together in Silver Creek before moving to work at the location in O’Neill. They relocated to Albion in 1971 where they opened a new Grosch Irrigation location. Mort enjoyed his career and continued working there until his final days.

Mort was a long-time member of Zion Lutheran Church, Albion Country Club, Nebraska Well Drillers Association, and American Legion Post #162 in Albion. He was active in the American Legion, receiving the Living Veteran award and also served as a board member of the local Vets Club.

In his free time, Mort enjoyed mowing the lawn, golfing, attending his grandchildren’s activities and spending time with family and friends. It was a given that, rain or shine, you would find Mort and Mary with their friends at the Albion Country Club every Saturday night for the past 40+ years.

Those left to cherish his memories are his wife of 55 years: Mary Grosch of Albion; four children: Louetta (John) Kennedy of Primrose; Heather (Chris) Kohtz of Albion; Matthew (Dorothy) Grosch of Albion; Rebecca (Blake) Trombley of Albion; 13 grandchildren: Jay, Blaine (Lili) and Bryce Kennedy; Lauren and Kathryn Kohtz; Beth Hauger; Garrett, and Max Grosch; Ashton, Gage, and Madisyn Evans; Eliza and Brynna Trombley; one great-grandchild: Leonora Kennedy; two brothers: Dick (Janet) Grosch of O’Neill; Wayne Grosch of Dublin, GA; sister: Sharon Cuba of Silver Creek; sister-in-law: Erma Grosch of Silver Creek; along with many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother Don Grosch; grandson Josh Hauger; sister-in-law: Kathy Grosch; and brother-inlaw: Bernard Cuba.
