“Al” Alvin L. Burkhardt, 74, of Central City, died on Monday, December 26, 2022 at CHI St. Francis in Grand Island. Memorial Services were at Solt-Wagner Funeral Home in Central City on Wednesday, January 4, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Mark Hartley officiating. Burial of ashes will be held at a later date.

Alvin LeRoy Burkhardt was born in St. Paul on November 7, 1948 to Ernest and Mabel Burkhardt. He grew up and worked on the family farm at Palmer, Nebraska until graduation from Palmer High School in 1967. Then he went to Hastings College for two years studying diesel mechanics, before moving to Central City in 1969. He got a job as a mechanic at the Ford Garage. He me Martha (Mart) Dettman on August 9, 1970 and they married August 9, 1974. Some of the various jobs that Al had were Century Crome Plating Shop in Central City, then Aurora. He also put house siding on for Modern Products out of Omaha. He then started his own business known as Lone Tree Log Crafters, cutting trees and hauling logs for lumber. He also cut up the logs for lumber himself. He was working at Cargill when in 1989 he went to California with his brother Roger on construction jobs. IN 1990 he started his own self-employment business in construction until his health started failing this fall.
He enjoyed driving his 1967 Mustang and 1972 Jeep call over the sandhills by Palmer. He also liked to fish, go camping, horsebacking, a trip to Colorado on his motorcycle with Dustin, reading and woodworking. He also enjoyed making and fixing anything he could. His family was his greatest love. He cherished every moment with his grandsons as they grew up and having them help him on his many projects.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife; Martha of Central City, his son; Dustin of Central City, his 3 grandsons; Tristin, Evan, and Riley Burkhardt, one step-grandson; Brody Duncans, and two step-great grandsons; Avory and Lium Duncans, 3 siblings; Roger and Waynette of Nilchik, AK, Dan and Julie of Ravenna and Kenneth of Aurora.
He was preceded in death by his parents; Ernest and Mabel Burkhardt.
