Venice J. Fossberg, 90, of Nebraska City, passed away on Tuesday, February 3, 2026 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Nebraska City.
Venice Joy Fossberg was born on October 15, 1935 in Milford, the daughter of Cecilia Ueckert and Hugh Shipps.
She was raised by her grandparents, Otto and Hattie Ueckert, attending country school and then Central City High School where she graduated with the Class of 1953.
On August 22, 1954, Venice was united in marriage to Dudley Fossberg in Central City and to this union four children were born: Sonia Ren’ee, Jody Marlene, Steven Dudley, and Bradley Alan. The couple shared fifty-three years together until Dudley’s death in 2007.
In addition to raising her family, Venice worked at Pendleton Woolen Mills for thirty-one years. She loved bowling and went to many state and national tournaments.
She was very proud of her 290 game.
Venice was a member of the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). She loved her church and church family, they were always there for her when she needed them and more.
Those left to cherish her memory include her daughter, Jody Walford; sister-in-law, Nancy Fossberg; brother-inlaw, Eddie Ennen (Joan); daughter-in-law, Jeannee Fossberg; sisters, Sheila Lovell and Susy Weidenshilling (Stu); brothers, Curt Shipps (Chaile) and Wayne Shipps; grandchildren, Jeremy Behrends (Jamie), Ryan Behrends (Sarah), and Holly Durr (Isaac); great-grandchildren, Caleb, Conner, Rylan, Jyrsee, Emmalyn, Jaxston, Trevor, Ava, Jacob, Arabella, and Noah; step grandchildren, Jamie, Patrick, and Stephanie; step great-grandchildren, Devon, Daniel, Emma, Ana, Boston, and Ryder; and other family members and friends.
In addition to her husband, Venice was preceded in death by her daughter, Sonia; sons, Steven and Bradley; sister, Janice; brother, Kenny; sisters-in-law, Gayle Kranau, JoAnn Fossberg, and Lola Moline; brothers-in-law, Denzil Fossberg, Philip Moline, Vernon Kranau, and John Lovell.
A funeral service was held on Wednesday, February 11, 2026 at the First Christian Church in Nebraska City. Burial will be held at a later date at Wyuka Cemetery in Nebraska City.
Memorials may be given to the family for future designation.
