Delton C. Wegner, 70, of Central City, died on Sunday, December 7, 2025 at Litzenberg Memorial Long Term Care Center.
The Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, December 27, 2025 at 10:30 a.m. at Community Bible Church in Central City with Pastor Dale Janzen and Pastor TJ Rexillius officiating.
Visitation will be held one hour before the service at the church.
A private burial of ashes will take place at Central City Cemetery.
Memorials are suggested to Nebraska Christian School and family choice.
Condolences may be sent to the family at www. soltwagnerfuneral.com Delton was born on July 26, 1955 to Warren and Beulah (Clausen) Wegner in Central City.
He grew up in Central City and graduated from Central City High School in 1973. Following graduation, Delton began working at their family business, Wegner Monument Co., where he designed monuments as well as set them in the cemeteries. On August 22, 1981 Delton was united in marriage to Cheryl Meyer at the United Methodist Church in Central City. They were blessed with twins, Michael and Mikayla.
Shortly after marriage, Delton attended Taxidermy School in Nisswa, Minnesota being taught by National and World Competition winners!
His love of the outdoors paired with his artistic ability led him to a lifelong passion of creating permanent memories for others, through his work of mounting big game, fish, and waterfowl. Delton also worked for Central City Public Schools for twenty-eight years as a bus driver and mowing the school lawns for many years. He also worked for the United States Postal Service as a substitute rural route mail carrier for over twenty years.
Delton was a member of the Community Bible Church, the Central City Sportsman Club, NRA, and volunteered for ten years on the Central City Volunteer Fire Department, including serving as the department’s secretary.
Delton was an avid outdoorsman his whole life.
He enjoyed deer hunting with bow and rifle, duck and dove hunting, and fishing in his youth. As an adult, he continued hunting and fishing with friends and family often going out of state and to Canada. Delton and Cheryl’s dream vacation was going fishing and sightseeing in Alaska twice which to Delton was experiencing God’s beautiful creation.
For hobbies, he enjoyed gardening, shooting blue rock, playing cards/ games, and carving his own duck decoys and fish. His greatest love of all was getting to spend time with his family, especially his grandchildren. His hope was for all to know Jesus as their Savior.
Those left to cherish Delton’s memory are his wife, Cheryl of Central City; his children, Michael (Olga) Wegner of Central City and Mikayla (Nathan) Deckinger of Overland Park, Kansas; his two grandchildren, Logan and Maleah Deckinger of Overland Park, Kansas; his sister, Coral Wegner of Hastings; and his nephew and niece, Gabe Troester of Hastings and Kylie (Mike) Way and family of Hastings.
Delton was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Dick Wegner; and sister, Candice Wegner.
