Arthur “Art” Charles Simmons, 83, of Central City, formerly of Sutton died Thursday, January 23, 2025 at Cottonwood Estates in Central City. Memorial services will be Saturday, February 1, 2025 at 11 a.m. at Solt-Wagner Funeral Home with Pastor Mark Hartley officiating. Burial of ashes will be in the York Cemetery at a later date. Luncheon will be immediately following the memorial service at Solt-Wagner Community Room.

Arthur “Art: Charles Simmons Art was born on August 27, 1941 in rural York County to Ralph and Esther (Phillips) Simmons. He grew up in the Sutton area and attended Sutton Schools. He entered the United StatesAir Force and was honorably discharged in 1960. He married Erma Irene Searle on June 13, 1965 in Sutton. Art lived in rural Clay County for most of his life. He farmed and then retired to Sutton in 2001. He moved to Cottonwood Estates in 2024.

Art was a member of the Federated Church in Sutton. He was a former Mayor and Lions Club member in Ong, Nebraska.

He is survived by his children- Andrew (Karrie) Simmons of Marquette; Arlene (John) Fairbanks of Surprise, AZ; and Ardell Simmons of Edgar; grandchildren- Jacob Simmons of Central City; Emily Simmons of Walla Walla, WA; Sarah (Braeden) Corman of Larned, KS; Nathan Fairbanks and Bethanie Bakarich and Lakelyn of Buckeye, AZ; and Jessica (Tanner Dice) of Omaha; brother- Wayne Simmons of Emporia, KS; sister in law- Mary Ann Searle of Hastings; and sister in law- Joanne Simmons of Santa Barbara, CA.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife- Erma; in laws-Charles and Inza Searle; siblings- Barbara, Robert, and Katie; and an infant brother.
