Marjorie Gretchen Bengtson, age 90 of York went home to her heavenly Father in the early morning hours of July 6, 2024 in York. Funeral services are scheduled for 10:00 am, Friday, July 12, 2024 at Faith Lutheran Church in York, with the Reverend Ben Francisco officiating. Burial will be held at 2:00 pm that afternoon at Hordville Cemetery in Hordville. Visitation will be held from 1-8 pm on Thursday, with family greeting friends from 6-7:30 pm that evening at the mortuary. Memorials may be directed to the family for later designation. Condolences may be left for the family at metzmortuary. York is handling arrangements.

She was born July 6, 1934 in Central City to Emil and Elverna (Nelson) Schutt. She attended District 48 Country School and graduated from Central City High School. She was a Harvest of Harmony Representative. On October 26, 1952 she married the love of her life, John (Pete) Bengston at the Fridham Lutheran Church in Hordville.

Marjorie worked for Northwestern Bell Telephone for three years after graduation. She also worked for the Central City Public Schools as a para for 18 years.

Marjorie and Pete lived on the family farm west of Central City for many years. They moved to York in 1990. Marjorie enjoyed cooking, baking, playing bridge, golfing, and gardening. But her biggest joy was being with her family, cooking large holiday meals, and loving on her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

She is survived by sons Terry (Darla) Bengtson of Valley and Todd (Pam) Bengtson of York; grandchildren: Teresa (Cap) Smith of Leesburg, VA, Megan (Aaron) Hochstein of Omaha, Andrea (Derek) Friesen of Henderson, John (Emily) Bengtson of Kearney, and Brevan (Barbara) Rowland of Omaha; 14 great grandchildren; sister Mona Dubas of Grand Island; brother-in-law Gordon McMullen of Upland, CA, sister-in-law Susan Schutt of Grand Island, and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband John (Pete); parents Elverna, Emil and Elsie; sister Inez Schutt at birth, sister Marlene McMullen; brother Marx Schutt; granddaughter Sara Zimmerman; great grandson Brooks Zimmerman; and brother-in-law Robert Dubas.
