Nebraska farm numbers lower

Nebraska’s number of farms and ranches declined during 2024, according to USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service. The number of farms and ranches in the state, at 44,300, was down 100 farms from 2023. Numbers of farms and ranches in Nebraska with less than $100,000 in agricultural sales decreased 400 farms from a year earlier while operations with agricultural sales of $100,000 or more increased 300 farms.

Struggles as a new reporter

Having been working at the Central City Republican- Nonpareil for nearly four months now, I’ve gotten into the swing of things when it comes to stories. I’ve covered city council meetings, interviewed people of all ages and backgrounds, and gone fishing for stories that don’t fit into any other category. However, this is where the conundrums come running. Sometimes, there are slow periods when potential newsworthy stories slip through the press’s fingers. The main difficulty with being a reporter stems from the aforementioned slow periods, and finding anything newsworthy can be difficult and demoralizing when nothing is found.
