What a way to begin a school year! Things have been busy from day one and they are not slowing down. I think, like everyone else, it is up to myself to take time and appreciate those moments. The great news is that I have a unique opportunity to embrace moments in a variety of ways. Below are some examples of everyday gratitude within our CCPS school day: ● Just going into the classrooms and watching the joy of learning at every level. Seeing the students find that moment when they “get it” and then can have a conversation with peers regarding learned information is always profound.

Never forget? How could I?

Another year passes, but the memory of that day never fades. I was in 5th grade on September 11, 2001, sitting in a classroom, oblivious to the fact that the world was about to shatter. One moment, it was just another school day, and the next, the TV flickered on and we saw the unthinkable. Buildings burning. People jumping. Death playing out before our young eyes, raw and inescapable.

Legislative Update

Last week in this space I discussed the contrast between Nebraska’s two major political parties but today the spotlight is on the two people running to be the 47th president of the United States – Kamala Harris and Donald Trump. Let’s compare where they stand on the vital issues of our country: Judges: Harris voted no on Gorsuch, Kavanaugh and Barrett’s appointments onto the U.S. Supreme Court, while Trump was the president who appointed them.

Sometimes, you just need to put the camera down and soak it all in. That’s exactly what I did this past Saturday, joining the Nelson family at Memorial Stadium to witness Carter Nelson’s debut for the Huskers. It was a day that I’ll remember for a long time, not just because it was a monumental moment for a young athlete, but because it was a reminder of the power of community, family, and tradition.

Saturday morning reflections with Ryan

Well, well, well, Bison Nation, if you weren’t in Ord last night, you missed a good ol’ fashioned Bison beatdown. Central City rolled into town, left the bus running, and lit up the scoreboard like it was a 4th of July firework show—final score: 48-20. But this wasn’t just any win; this was a statement. The Bison have dudes. Athletic dudes. Dudes who can flat-out play.

We are so excited to welcome you back to Central City Elementary School! Our SecondAnnual Open House and Back to School Barbeque was a huge success! It provided parents an opportunity to not only tour the building and meet their child’s teacher, but also provided an event where families could get to know each other. We are all a community and our school community is so special.
