Common sense about sports and spaces

Body
I recently attended a function where a friend said, “We have returned to an age of common sense!” He was referring to a statement made by President Trump in signing the “No Men In Women’s Sports Executive Order.” Trump said men will play in male sports and women in women’s sports. This certainly sounds like common sense, but that can be a subjective and nebulous term to some.

I was but a boy when that first Facebook invite arrived in my inbox—The One. An invitation to a new world where status updates were sacred, where “poking” someone was the height of digital flirtation, and where your social standing was measured in the grand currency of “Likes.”

There’s something poetic about watching kids grow up. One minute, they’re running around the gym in oversized jerseys, trying to dribble with two hands and shoot with the strength of a baby bird. The next minute, they’re cutting down nets, winning championships, and making you question if time is moving at double speed.

A look at this year’s pro-life bills

Body
Earlier this month I joined thousands of others to participate in the Nebraska Walk for Life at our State Capitol in Lincoln. It was encouraging to join with many of my fellow state senators and our Washington delegation in this important event. We are truly blessed to have the majority of our elected officials standing boldly for protection of our unborn. However, much more is yet to be done.

If you’ve never stood on a stage in front of a packed house, holding a microphone in one hand and the weight of an entire town’s expectations in the other, let me tell you—it’s a lot like trying to carry all your groceries inside in one trip. It starts with confidence, quickly spirals into uncertainty, and ends with an awkward shuffle while you pray nothing falls apart. But there I was, Saturday night at the Chamber Gala, handing a very deserving man a very important award, and somehow, the metaphorical grocery bags held firm.

The case for congressional term limits

Body
Readers may have heard that I recently introduced a bill in the Nebraska Legislature calling for a limited Article V Constitutional Convention for proposing a single amendment to the U.S. Constitution for term limits on Congress. Nine states have already passed this resolution and a total of 34 states are needed in order for such a convention to be called. This is in line with our Nebraska federal delegation which has signed a pledge to back term limits, but only a few of their colleagues will likely follow suit. If members of Congress won’t set limits on themselves, the states must take action to do it for them.
