Hello! My name is McKenna Larson and I am one of the new teachers at Central City this school year. Previously, I was a first grade teacher at Sandy Creek over the past five years. Several people have asked, why the change? The main reason is because I got married and moved up north to live with my husband, Cole. We got married this past June in Clearwater Beach, Florida.

Students attend DECA fall conference

Chapter Secretary On October 14th, multiple of Central City’s DECA members attended the DECA Fall Leadership Conference at Creighton University in Omaha. Claire Blomstedt, a first-time member, said “It was a great experience to learn what leadership can be like and how a healthy system works.” She also said “It was really awesome to see what DECA stands for and what they believe in.” Julia Buss, the chapter president, said “Even though I’ve been a member for a while, this year was my first time attending the conference.” She mentioned how it was an incredible experience and she had the opportunity to learn how to become a more active DECA member, use positive leadership skills, and the impor-tance of AI literacy.

Nebraska Corn hosts Filipino trade team

Several Nebraska corn farmers hosted a trade team before the United States Grains and BioProducts Council’s (USGBC) Global Ethanol Summit (GES) in Washington, D.C. The conference features concurrent panel discussions with experts on various topics within the biofuel industry, such as sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), industrial applications, clean cooking, and maritime fuels.

As fall progresses, temperatures continue to drop and chances of a freeze grows. When frost hits the Great Plains and Midwest, do you know the impact on forages and how livestock can be kept safe? Short-term freezing temperatures may cause sorghum species such as sorghum-sudangrass or any grain (milo) or forage sorghum to become lethal to livestock.

Blauhorn teaching others at Cross County

Body
Merrick County native and former member of the Cornhusker Marching Band (CMB) Faith Blauhorn began her first concert season as a band director last week. The former Tiger and four-year trombonist with CMB took over the band program at Cross County Community Schools this academic year, having graduated with distinction from the University of Nebraska—Lincoln (UNL) in May with a degree in music education.

10 YEARS AGO Merrick County Supervisor Jim Helgoth said a few words about his Board’s involvement in and support of the process that has come to fruition in the breaking of ground for the new 4-H building at the Merrick County Fairgrounds. Board Chairman Roger Wiegert used the shovel during the October 18th groundbreaking ceremony.
