Lady Storm begin season 2-1
Volleyball made a return at High Plains Community this past week and the Lady Storm are ready to put together another successful run as they look to build upon successful seasons in recent years. The season got off to a fast start, but on Tuesday night the team suffered their first loss of the season when they were defeated by Fullerton.
The Warriors claimed the first set 25-23 and the second set 25-20, but the High Plains would not go down without a fight. In the third set the Storm took a 25-22 victory, but Fullerton answered with a 25-20 victory in the fourth set to claim the match 3-1.
Last Thursday it was a different story as it was all High Plains in the opening triangular of the season. The Lady Storm were able to defeat East Butler 25-20 and 25-22 in a game where Hailey Lindburg finished with ten kills and Kenzie Wruble was close behind with seven kills of her own. Rylee Ackerson came up big with four kills and three blocks while Courtney Carlstrom was huge with three aces, eight digs and 18 assists. Emily Ackerson also played well as she totaled 17 digs to lead the team.
Against Giltner it was much of the same as High Plains secured the opening set 25-15 and the second set 25-18. Wruble led the team with nine kills while Lindburg was just behind her with eight kills as the seniors showed they will be key components to this team’s success this season.
High Plains will look to shake off their first loss of the season, but it will be no easy task as they will host a talented Nebraska Christian team who sits 8-2 on the season. The varsity contest is scheduled for 7:00 pm in Polk. The team will also be in action in Spalding next Tuesday when they face Riverside and Palmer.
