Girls State Golf Update: Cyah White Bull fights through first round as state golf tournament unfolds
Cyah White Bull celebrates earlier in the season
As play continues at the Class C State Golf Tournament on Monday, October 14, many golfers are still making their way through the challenging Lake Maloney Golf Club course. Central City's Cyah White Bull has finished her first round, posting a score of 93, which currently places her tied for 28th. While the leaderboard remains in flux as the final groups conclude their rounds, White Bull’s performance reflects a steady approach on a course that has tested all competitors.
Lake Maloney’s demanding layout, covering 5,017 yards and playing to a par 72, has already shown why it’s a true test of skill. White Bull’s round saw a combination of pars and bogeys, with a few holes proving more difficult, especially on the back nine where the par-5 12th and 14th holes presented significant challenges. Despite the ups and downs, White Bull was able to capitalize on some key moments, including pars on the 9th and 17th, keeping her in a competitive position as the tournament progresses.
The best-completed round of the day so far belongs to Ogallala’s Reese Ribera, who finished at +17 with an 89, setting an early benchmark for the field. Meanwhile, Kara Suchsland of Minden sits atop the leaderboard at +3, but with several groups still on the course, including some of the tournament favorites, the standings remain subject to change as the evening progresses.
Minden is in pursuit of their 12th state championship, led by Suchsland and KayLynn Jorgensen, who are both in contention for individual medals. The tournament is expected to see further movement in the standings as final scores come in from golfers still on the course.
For White Bull, Tuesday’s second round will provide an opportunity to move up the leaderboard. With a solid foundation laid on Monday, she will look to improve on her performance and finish her season strong at the state tournament.
As play concludes for the day, the competition remains fierce, and the final round promises to bring excitement and drama as Nebraska’s top Class C golfers battle for state glory.
