Friday night means one thing in Nebraska—high school football. Fans from across the area will gather under the lights to watch their favorite teams compete in three pivotal matchups. With teams looking to make their mark early in the season, here's a look at tonight’s action-packed slate, featuring the Central City Bison, Nebraska Christian Eagles, and High Plains Storm.

Cozad Haymakers (0-1) vs. Central City Bison (1-0) @ Central City, 7 p.m.

The Central City Bison are riding high after a dominant 48-20 victory over Ord last week and will look to maintain that momentum against the Cozad Haymakers tonight. Central City's offense, led by quarterback Parker Zikmund, exploded for nearly 500 total yards in the opener, showcasing a balanced attack with 186 rushing yards and 298 passing yards. Zikmund threw for an impressive 247 yards and four touchdowns, while the Bison defense tallied 4 sacks and held Ord to just 20 points.

Cozad, on the other hand, is still seeking their first win after a tough 22-13 loss to Sidney last week. The Haymakers' offense struggled to gain traction on the ground, with their leading rusher posting just 11 yards. Quarterback Noah Shoemaker was able to connect on a few key plays, including a 69-yard touchdown pass, but the team will need to shore up both their rushing and passing games if they hope to compete against a Bison squad firing on all cylinders.

The Bison's home opener will also be special as three Bison legends are inducted into the Central City High School Athletic Hall of Fame. Expect the energy in the stands to match the intensity on the field as Central City aims to extend their record to 2-0.

Nebraska Christian Eagles (0-1) vs. Neligh-Oakdale Warriors (1-0) @ Neligh-Oakdale, 7 p.m.

Nebraska Christian is looking to bounce back from a difficult opening loss to High Plains, where they fell 50-14. Despite the loss, there were bright spots for the Eagles, including solid performances from Brodey Flynn, who rushed for 84 yards, and quarterback Oliver Herman, who threw for 97 yards. Nebraska Christian will need to find a way to keep the ball moving against a Neligh-Oakdale team that demonstrated their offensive prowess last week with a 56-28 victory.

Neligh-Oakdale’s explosive offense, led by a dominant first-quarter showing, put up 36 points in the opening frame of their season opener. The Warriors will be a tough matchup for the Eagles, but if Nebraska Christian can tighten up their defense and generate more consistent offensive drives, they could keep this game competitive.

Palmer Tigers (0-1) vs. High Plains Storm (1-0) @ High Plains, 7 p.m.

The High Plains Storm is riding the wave of a commanding 50-14 win over Nebraska Christian last week, and they’ll look to keep that momentum rolling as they host the Palmer Tigers. The Storm’s rushing attack was unstoppable in their opener, amassing an impressive 455 yards on the ground. Gage Friesen, the standout running back, led the charge with 233 rushing yards, while quarterback Haden Helgoth added a few key plays in the air.

Palmer, coming off a tight 32-30 loss to Twin River, will have their hands full with the High Plains rushing attack. However, they have a weapon of their own in Gatlin Reimers, who posted a massive 306 yards of total offense last week, including 232 rushing yards. Reimers will need to have another standout performance to give Palmer a fighting chance against a formidable Storm defense that registered seven sacks last week.
