Rachel was born January 21, 1956 in Harlan, Iowa to Horace and Leona Graves. She graduated from Bob Jones University with a bachelor’s degree in physical education. After college, Rachel taught P.E. and coached the girl’s high school volleyball team in Normal, Illinois. In June 1984, Rachel married Kurt Vollers of Pender.

Shortly thereafter, they moved to Central City and opened Vollers Chiropractic Clinic together where Rachel assisted as office manager and receptionist for several years.

Rachel served faithfully in her church for many years teaching Sunday School, midweek children’s church, vacation Bible school, and leading women’s Bible studies.

She homeschooled her four children from kindergarten through high school graduation and was the theatre director for the Lone Tree Home Educators. Rachel loved to serve others and was always visiting shut-ins, helping the elderly with yard work, and sharing Jesus’ love with others.

Rachel loved the great outdoors! She enjoyed long walks almost daily regardless of the weather. She was an avid gardener and enjoyed home canning and freezing all kinds of fruits and vegetables.

She was a wonderful cook and was known for her fabulous homemade pies and candy during the holiday seasons. Her children fondly remember picking out their made-from-scratch cake each birthday which would be beautifully decorated to the current interest, and then following hand-written clues to prizes and treats on a meticulously crafted birthday “treasure hunt.”

Rachel was preceded in death by her brother John, and granddaughter Kenley.

Rachel is survived by her husband, Kurt Vollers; four children, Kaleb (Arielle) Vollers, Rachelle (Tremayne) Blair, Karl (Ashley) Vollers, and Sarah (Jon) Royle; two sisters, Janet and Lauree; two brothers, Phil and Paul; and thirteen grandchildren.

A very special thanks to all her caregivers at home and at Crane Gardens Memory Care, who gave Rachel so much love and compassionate care.
