With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Barney Ernest Danklesen, who left this world peacefully at home on his farm, among the gentle whispers of the land and surrounded by the animals he cherished. He departed this life on November 27, 2024. Barney reached the end of his journey due to natural causes; he was 71 years old.

A celebration of Barney’s life will be held at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Central City on Saturday December 7, 2024 where family and friends can gather to share their memories and to honor the amazing life he led. Visitation held from 9-11am, Mass at 11am with luncheon to follow.

Born in Central City on May 13, 1953, Barney was the son of Grace (Schneiderheinz) and Ernest Danklesen. As a young boy, he attended Nance County Country School. He graduated Central City High School in 1971. Attended Peru State College as well as a brief stint in the US Army. He was married to Anita Lechner in 1984 and remained best of friends beyond the dissolution of their marriage.

He is survived in death by his sister Sylvia Erickson of Central City, brother John Paul and Cheryl Danklesen of Clinton, Indiana, daughter Allie Danklesen and grandson Lincoln of Grand Island, daughter Heather Mercer, son in law Mark Mercer and granddaughter Maggie of Boston, MA. Stepfather to Kari Voss and Jenny Kropp, both of Grand Island. Barney was also bonus grandpa to Riley& Katey Voss and Carter & Ella Goess. Along with numerous nieces and nephews, Eric Erickson & family, Jeremy Erickson & family, Scott Erickson, Brett Danklesen & family, and Stefanie Danklesen.

Barney was a proud member of the community that shaped him. To know Barney was to know a man whose heart was as vast as the rolling fields on his farm, where he found peace and comfort.

Barney was a devoted father to his beloved daughter Allie. She was his pride and joy. His kind and joyous spirit will live on in the heart of his grandson, Lincoln Kohl Bryant. He always had a story about Heather’s exciting and successful career in the jewelry business as well as bragging rights for Maggie’s intelligence. They were both loved beyond measure by their father.

A loyal companion, Barney was never seen without a faithful and loyal dog by his side. Pete, Chief and Goldie were the long line of companions to Barney. Their bond was a testament to his kindhearted nature and love for the simple pleasures in life. Whether tending to his land or enjoying a quiet moment outdoors, he embraced everyday with a spirit of gratitude and grace.

Barney’s passing leaves a profound void in the lives of those who knew him, but his legacy of love, kindness, and dedication to his family willforeverremaininourhearts. Aswesaygoodbyetoabeloved father, brother, grandfather, and friend, we honor the joyful moments and memories we shared.

Rest in peace, you are surrounded by love and light where you will never feel alone another day. You will be missed immensely earthside, but your spirit will live on in those who loved you.
