Archer Credit Union appoints Verlen Larsen to Board
The Archer Cooperative Credit Union with offices in Central City, Archer, Dannebrog, and St. Paul is excited to announce the appointment of a new Board Member, Verlen Larsen.
Rex Minert, President/CEO of Archer Credit Union, states, “Although Verlen is new to the Board of Directors, he is not new to having a leadership role atArcher Credit Union. He has served for over a decade on our Supervisory Committee. He has been with us and our membership in the good times and the times we struggled. He was at the forefront when Dannebrog experienced historic flooding at our Dannebrog office and made sure Archer Credit Union was there to support the community. In addition, he brings with him a tremendous knowledge of our Credit Union. We are thrilled to have him in this new role.”
“Having spent most of my life in small Nebraska communities and blessed to marry my best friend Lori in 1982, we’ve been happy residents of Dannebrog for the past 18 years. Lori and I became fans of credit unions while living in Tennessee and were thrilled when Archer Cooperative Credit Union came to Dannebrog,” says Verlen. “ACCU values what we value: trust, integrity, member driven, local. We like doing business with our neighbors.”
Verlen received his Teaching Certificate from the University of Northern Iowa in 1988 and worked in post-secondary education before co-founding a company to create college programs. He is responsible for Financials, Marketing, Staffing, Compliance, Sales and general management for his company and leads other companies in these areas.
He is a lifelong student, and received the CTP (Certified Transportation Professional) designation in 2015 and Corporate Finance Certificate from Wharton in 2022. Today, he works with trucking fleets across North America, providing technical and process analysis for transportation management software.
“Over the years I’ve enjoyed serving on various boards and committees and enthusiastically joined the ACCU Supervisory Committee 10 years ago. I am honored to now serve on the ACCU Board of Directors,” says Verlen.
As a not-for-profit cooperative that wants to assist their members to achieve their financial goals, members are considered “owners” of the Credit Union, and as such, elect other members to serve on the Board of Directors. Verlen was elected to the Board during the Archer Credit Union Annual Meeting on March 15.
These volunteers maintain a balanced focus on serving the needs of the membership while preserving the financial strength and longterm viability of the Credit Union and ensuring fiscal responsibility. Once elected, these volunteers can share their business experiences, leadership skills and management capabilities in a team environment.
All Board members are nominated and elected in accordance with policy and Bylaws approved by the State of Nebraska of Banking and Finance. By applying for the position of a Director on the Board of Directors, applicants are committing to dedicate the necessary time and resources to fulfill their obligations as a Director.
At Archer Credit Union they are dedicated to their members and communities by helping them achieve financial success. Archer Credit Union strives to achieve this in five different ways; by being member focused, community minded, genuine, dependable, and secure.
Verlen resides with his wife, Lori, and their puppy, Thistle in Dannebrog. Lori serves on the Dannebrog Village Board and Dannebrog Boosters. They have two children; Chelsea who joined ACCU as an MSR in 2014, and is now Compliance Officer. Chelsea holds a master’s degree in History and married Carl Eaker in 2022. Their son, Caleb, is a Firefighter, Federal Security Officer, and husband to Tanya. Verlen and Lori have two grandchildren, and Dad to Danica, and Jason.
