Eugene was born on April 15, 1944 in Central City to Edward Mitchell and Lola Mae (Beck) Hoback. Eugene attended grade school at District 38 in Merrick County, and Central City High School, graduating with class of 1962. Following his graduation, they moved the school building, and it is now his shop on the family homestead. On December 4, 1971 Eugene was united in marriage to Sandra Kay Wulf at the United Presbyterian Church in Central City. Eugene was a farmer west of Central City, and spent his entire life on the same property. He raised corn, hogs, and cattle. He never had a problem on the farm that he couldn’t solve by building something from his supply of “saved treasures”.
When Eugene wasn’t working, he enjoyed spending his time hunting, fishing, shooting archery, team roping and watching old westerns and Fox News. He also enjoyed listening to country western music, but his greatest love was getting to spend time with his family.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife; Sandra of Central City, his children; Kelly (Nicki) Hoback of Fullerton, Jessica Hoback of Grand Island, Mitchell Hoback of Kearney, and Michael (Amber) Hoback of Chapman, his sisters; Ettagean Hillers of Bellevue and Edwardine (Gary) Lindgreen of Clarks, his brother-in-law; Thomas Shonquist of LaVista, his three grandsons; Ethan, Wade, and Mason Hoback, and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his sisters; Joyce Metzler and Karen Shonquist, granddaughter; Julianne Kay Hoback and niece; Deborah (Hillers) Benak.
